A Week in the Life {2017: TWO}

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of non-stop craziness. Between the Valentine holiday, my uncle’s memorial service in Denver (a full post on that trip coming up soon), full steam ahead on our basement finish, and then two sick kiddos this weekend, I don’t feel like I’ve sat down once to breathe and take a moment to relax. Here’s a recap ofĀ the past few weeks in our life…

Each year, during the Valentine season, I take the kids into Target for a quick little photoshoot. Here are a few of my favorites from this year. You can view the entire series of our Target Valentine’s here: 2017, 2016, 2015.

Blakely is absolutely in love with her first year in “Young 3’s” preschool, and I have enjoyed going into their classroom for party days. I must admit, it is relaxing to be there as a parent, and not as the teacher in charge. I do bow down to any and all preschool teachers…how on EARTH do you do it?!? I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this little bundle of pink knowledge we have (she definitely has her daddy’s love for learning)! Row always seems quite content in his stroller, so I think he may be a different story (that would be my love for observation and socialization). šŸ˜‰

This boy and his boots. Well, not his, actually. He has gotten to a stage where he argues with me when it’s time to head out the door, because he wants “boooooooots,” and not his actual shoes. It looks as if I have an easy out for a birthday present next month! Oh, and the lions. Let’s don’t forget about those priceless loves of his.

Every other week, we continue to spend a day with Miss J, our wonderful therapist. Rowen loves his time with her, because it’s one on one play, even though big sis always tries to nudge her way into whatever they do that morning!

Girlie, girlie, girlie. That’s what Miss B is these days. Begs me each and every day to paint her nails. So…we do. And she surprisingly sits quite still to let them dry.

This past week marked the second birthday of Wichita Mom’s Blog. Over the past 2 years, I have been an avid follower and supporter of all things wonderful that they have to offer! As of last fall, I decided it was time to take a step into becoming a contributor for the team, and have enjoyed every moment with their diverseĀ team of mamas. To celebrate WMB’s second birthday, we met at Dunkin’ Donuts (and of course, had a little breakfast), and headed out to deliver some special treats to one lucky reader. When we left, Blakely asked why we didn’t sing Happy Birthday and blow out a candle, even though she could not for the life of her grasp what it was exactly that we were celebrating!

This past weekend, we attended a Royal Princess Ball for the very first time. Oh my, I must say that theĀ vibrance of dresses on tiny little girls made for one exciting morning! Blakely refused to wear one of her princess dresses (and later begged to wear one once we got there), and responded to all of the princesses as if they were asking her to sit on Santa’s lap. Regardless of not actually coming within arm’s reach of any of the princesses, she enjoyed the crafts, jewelry, and giant balloons just as much! Thank you to Dream Parties and Wichita Mom’s Blog for a wonderful experience that we will cherish forever!

After a cram packed week full of so many things, I think it finally caught up with these two. Both kiddos have spent a majority of time these past few days in our bed, with a sippy of Pedialyte nearby. I think it’s safe to say that we are no longer safe from the flu. Rowen has been in the horizontal position a majority of the past 72 hours, and Blake isn’t far behind him.

And last but not least, I can’t go without sharing a little insight into our biggest project at the moment. Although Nathan has done everything himself thus far in our basement finish (drawings of plans, framing, electrical, plumbing, you name it), we finally caved and decided to hire out the sheetrocking step. These images were taken on day #1 that they were here, and after day #2, the walls are all up and taping has begun. I cannot even begin to express how exciting it is to finally see the rooms taking shape after living in this house nearly 5 years this coming June! All of the hammering and dust are not a great combination with the sick kiddos upstairs, but if it means that we are nearly doubling our living space, I’llĀ work with it!

Valentine Shopping 2017 {wichita childrens photographer} {wichita lifestyle photographer}

We spent a morning recently in the aisles of Target, forĀ a part of our annual Valentine tradition. In the past, I’ve lugged my big camera into the store with me to shoot a few fun images of Blakely taking in all of the bright colored toys and her curious eyes amongst the endless shelves of candy. This year, I ventured to take Rowen along as well (he is at that stage where he constantly wants down and to do what his big sister is doing). Having my camera in a store, it proved to be very challenging, but we had fun with it anyway! As you’ll see in the images below, it was very apparent when it was time to go. Oh…and Blakely’s new thing is wanting to “sign” her name at check out, so I couldn’t pass up an image of her acting so grown up!

Past Valentine’sĀ can be found here: Valentine Shopping 2016 & Valentine Shopping 2015.

A Week in the Life {2017: ONE}

In 2017, my New Years resolution was to document more of our daily life. If not for me, it’s for my babies. I’m horrible at baby books (kid #3 coming soon, and I have yet to start a baby book for our first child). It’s now the first week of February, and I’m just now blogging 2017 images for the first time. Here’s to hoping I can keep this up at least once per month!

Blakely enjoyed her first official holiday party with friend’s at Love of Character, for Valentine cookie decorating. Sally Cavanaugh provided the most adorable aprons from Matilda Jane Clothing, and the littles ate up their sugar high prior to 11 am. Success? I think so!

This little lady is practicing her numbers and alphabet constantly these days. Our favorite activity, by far, is the Match It number puzzle. She now wants to get it out and do it all by herself. I think she’s going to be quite a student like her daddy when it comes to focusing hard. Mama was more into the socializing aspect of school!

Rowen recently started eating slices (VERY tiny slices: Freddy’s french fry size) of apples, but this is a huge milestone to celebrate! For a kiddo with TEF (tracheo-esophageal fistula) repair, solid foods are very difficult to pass through the esophagus and into the stomach. Since his procedureĀ last fall to stretch the surgical site back open, we’ve been working hard to chew and drink plenty of fluids. So proud of this little guy for reaching such a milestone at about 21 months of age!

First French braid! Blakely wasn’t as thrilled as I was for this, but it sure was an exciting day for all!

Bed play! EachĀ and every morning that they stay home with me, and we don’t have school, these giggle boxes love to play on Mommy & Daddy’s bed. This week was even more fun, because Rowen finally mastered climbing up onto the bed ALL by himself! Another milestone for this kid, as after 4 major surgeries early in life, his core muscles have had to work hard to keep up with physical development, such as rolling, crawling, and walking. He didn’t learn to weight bear until 18 months of age (as in, he didn’t put weight on his feet, even when we would hold him up), finally walked at 19, and is now climbing at 22 months.

Story time with Daddy! Need I say more?!

Another HUUUUUUUGE part of our days and weeks right now are filled with trips to Menards and late nights sawing and hammering. Daddy is finishing the basement to make more room for the 5th family member joining this summer, so on weekends, we all hang out in the basement together. Rowen HATES loud noises, and Blakely loves to make marks on the walls like Daddy. This weekend, we even had a car wash in our basement! How many people can say that?!

Bananas for breakfast. Every. Single. Day. With the high amounts of starch and fiber that bananas contain, Rowen is limited to one banana per day to avoid constipation with his delicate digestive system. But no worries, he makes sure to reach that one banana limit every single morning!
